What is it?
Ton of Monkeys is an online community of young writers. Our goal is two-fold: to help hone the talent of those who already enjoy writing, and motivate the rest to write more often! Ton of Monkeys hopes to collaborate with educators, professional media, talent/college scouts, and more. We want to provide a place where young adults of varying skill can benefit -- from getting help writing that school paper to landing your first writing job!
Why the name?
There is a story that goes like this: "If there were an infinite number of monkeys typing on an infinite number of typewriters for eternity, one would eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare." While this may just be a simple abuse of mathematics, we believe that true art is not something that can be arrived at by random chance and bad statistics. It takes heart, creativity, and skill to create something that will last longer than ourselves.
We believe that if talent is fostered early and if creativity is encouraged, someone from this generation could be studied by students of the future. Ton of Monkeys is an experiment of sorts, to see if this generation's collection of "monkeys" can even go one step further than the Bard himself.
